I guess he means the Uhlenhault coupe.
But you are right the SLR was based on the W196 Streamliner F1 car from 1954/55. The W196 was one of the most succesful F1 cars ever, btw.

Id still choose a 300SL or a Mustang, Regardless if it doesn't have suspension, and no brakes. There is a reason why that car is loved by so many people. Well, I don't love it, Id rather have a 440 R/T SixPack, But I like the 300 and the E-Types okay, But neither one is my type of car. I don't particularly care for too many pre 1980s Mercedes or Jags.
