Both type R's are great! I prefer the MK2 fn2 as interior design, digital dash, rev counter, general build quality feels better. I think the extra weight in the fn2 to accommodate more luxury is worth the 0.01 seconds that no one will ever really notice. Ok the MK2 wasn't at the time the leap everyone expected, but the refinements are excellent. Ok it's a tad more domesticated interior wise, bigger boot/space ect. But the Honda quality inside and out is a massive leap. Inside the Fn2 you are wrapped up in Honda type R attention to detail on another level. The fn2 for me while not a leap in pure performance, it's a big refinement of the ep3. Both cars are quality.

The truth is all of us type R fan boys and gals probably wouldn't be disappointed in either model. The only difference is which one people prefer to live with in everyday use. They both absolutely maintain the same pedegree, and performance is split by a hair.

EP3 is classic, FN2 is not (at least today) and was always overshadowed by Japanese Type R.
Mark 4y ago @FastestLaps
Yet the ep has 12bhp/ton more, is considerably lighter, and is considered a classic yet its a full 3 seconds slower round the top gear track!
Smithy 4y ago @Mark
Ep3 was a wet lap, fn2 was a dry lap.. Considering the ep3 would have been about 5 seconds faster

Everyone knows the EP3 was a better car. Weight guys matters, and the EP3 was a lightweight. I have a EP3 and race FN2 all the time. So please do not tell me which car is superior.

Actually, I think it\'s FN2 that is a pregnant Jazz. They both share similar chassis configuration, rear trailing arm suspension and fuel tank placed in the middle of the car (rather than at the back, close to the rear wheel). The EP3 sports fully independent, multi link rear suspension (IIRC) and fuel tank in the right location.
