While I am looking at this comparison, I will have to repeat that the power/weight ratio for the Mustang GT 5.0 is wrong. The Mustang has a better power/weight ratio than the Camaro despite what is showing. The reason that the Mustang is faster is primarily because it is over 250 lbs lighter than the Camaro. Unfortunatly, I don\'t have the authority to change the Mustang\'s curb weight on this site. I think my owner\'s manual claims 3605 lbs, which is probably pretty close.

Okay, I am very pleased to see that the Mustang beats the Camaro at Virginia International Raceway. The VIR is the closest track the U.S. has to the justly famous Nordschleife in Germany. I figure if the Mustang is quicker at VIR, it will also beat the Camaro at Nordschleife. Not bad since the Camaro SS managed an 8:20 at Nordschleife! Neither of these are Supercars, but they are fairly respectible sportscars. Faster than a Subaru WRX STI at any rate. :)

The curb weight of the Mustang is wrong. It is not heavier than the Camaro SS! The weight of the Mustang GT 5.0 is either 3580 lbs (Car and Driver) or 3616 lbs (Motor Trend). I think that the difference in the two magazines is simply that Car and Driver tested a base model GT, while Motortrend tested a loaded Premium trim GT. The Camaro SS is approximately 3860 lbs (Car and Driver) and is thus 280 lbs heavier than the Mustang GT 5.0. The Fastestlaps has the Mustang at 11 kgs (24 lbs) heavier than the Camaro which is frankly and obviously wrong.
