I believe these BMWs have the same engine. The 1 Series has a six speed manual, and the Z4 sDrive 35is has a seven speed automanual. The superior shifting speed of the automanual should make the acceleration the same despite a near 200 lb weight difference. Obviously something isn't right with the acceleration times. The 1 Series M does have better handling, and so the lap times are as expected.
