This car was created because of the F430. The F430 escalated from being an entry-level Ferrari to a mid-level one later in production, thanks to the luxurious California roadster which was intended to rival the Audi R8 and BMW M6/Alpina B6 convertibles, as well as the flagship Mercedes-Benz roadsters (i.e. the '600' and 'AMG' versions of the SL-Class).

Those times from the french magazine are real, it even has a laptime on Magny-curse club,

http://motorsport-magazine.fr/index.php?option=com_flippingbook&view=book&id=29:num-hs04&catid=2:anciens-numeros&tmpl=component

Every issue has the laptimes, but I couldn't find any scans, you had to print the page in order to see the laptimes somewhat clearly cuse there's no zoom option.

@FastestLaps
These 3.9 13.1 21.8@245 are quoted from the French mag.
Quattroruote clocked 3.9 13.2 (I think) 21.8@? and 311 top speed, issue 6/2009.
I can't find either of the sources right now, I'm sorry.

0-100 km/h 3.9 s,
0-200 km/h 13.1 s,
1000 m 21.8 s @ 245 km/h.
Can we update..?

...and with Marc Gene at work...

@F355 Sure, just tell me what the issue date/issue number is for the quattroroute where these times were published. And it would be great if you could also provide me with a scan/photograph of the corresponding page.

Well... it\'s a different story for turbo engines where my definition of \"true exhaust\" can not apply.

User avatar

Georg  14y ago

@Fastestlaps

the Ferrari F40 is a V8 and it has a tripple exhaust functional :)

the question is what gases goes through it...in case of the F40 the central pipe was for gases released from the wastegate of the turbochargers... so all three pipes were used for real exhaust gas coming out of the engine...

User avatar

FastestLaps  14y ago

@F355

Of course there are exhaust gasses flowing from all exhaust pipes of California or 458. Having non-functional purely cosmetic pipes on Ferrari would be somewhat tragic, considering the brand\'s image and price one has to pay for one of those cars.

However, like I said before, you can not have true triple exhaust setup on 8 cylinder engine. And by \"true exhaust\" I mean a connection going from the rear of the car all the way to the exhaust manifolds.

458 has triple exhaust tips not exhausts. It is a common practice to have dual exhaust with quad exhaust tips (which is the case for California as well).

All exhaust pipes of the California are functional.

On the 458 the function of the central and lateral exhaust pipes is different.
"One of the main objectives with the exhaust was to reduce weight. The catalytic converter is attached to the central section of the exhaust by a flexible element to reduce the amount of vibration transmitted and to thus allow thinner metal to be used. Similarly the pre-catalytic converter has been eliminated, lowering overall weight and reducing back pressure whilst still respecting strict Euro 5 and LEV2 emissions."
Illustration of an after market exhaust for the 458:

FastestLaps  14y ago

what? Fake exhausts? are they kidding me? On a Ferrari?

Well, how can you explain triple exhausts on 458? 8/3 = ~2.7 cylinders per exhaust. How can there be a true triple exhaust on a V8?

0-200 time is a bit disappointing.

User avatar

someone has added this car 3rd on the ring!

User avatar

Anonymous  16y ago

i love those exhausts, atleast there not fake

About the exaust not being fake.....(from Car and Driver)

The stacked rear tailpipes, like those of the Lexus IS F, are purely cosmetic and have no physical attachment to the ordinary exhaust pipes they conceal.

Whaaaat? the Rear is the best part of the car, and i love those exhausts, atleast there not fake..Cough (Lexus) cough.

User avatar

Anonymous  16y ago

Taking a look at this car there are several dissapointments i have like those super ugly rear lights, the lexus style exaust, the aston martin front fender and those hood scoops are a thing of the past, i would take the F430 over this any day.

I highly doubt the New F430-Replacement will Kill the GT-R. dont get me wrong, it will definetly be fast, But the performance of the GT-R is nothing to Sneeze at, Specially considering how much it weighs,costs, and powerd, its no joke.

User avatar

M Power  16y ago

1.4 seconds and 1.9 seconds behind the GT-R but with 20hp less power and a rear drive and exactly same weight...The New F450 and our 7 speed gear box and double clutch,i guess kill the GT-R

User avatar

A156  16y ago

Well, since now, California has a pretty good performance for its power to weight ratio.
