So there's nothing bogus or shameful.
motor trend did it in 5.8 with out LC
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/hatchbacks/112_0910_2010_volkswagen_gti_test/specs.html
and heres an other 0-60 in 6 seconds flat from utube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZWHXmQJf6M
sorry to bother but these numbers are just shamfull
It was british best car tester who rated the Scirocco R over the RS ...
the scirocco was rated by one reviewer over the rs as its easier to manage the power, the rs is still quick :-)
it costs nearly 2 grand more! vw are having a laugh!
overpriced and not worth it, the st has the gti pipped in every way, and its 4 years older, get used to it.
according to Ford and VW UK webpage the GTI starts at 24,175 and the Ford ST at 22,500 both stripped out of everything...with leather the ST starts at 23,488
the different isnīt as big as you try to let it look!
the golf r is 30k, so nearly 5k more than the equivelant hot hatches focus rs and audi s3 which, according to the golf r reviews, are both alot better.
the r32 mk5 was sluggish and thirsty.
in the uk, the golf gti starts at 25k for a bog spec one, no luxurys.
the st is around 22k with full leather interior etc, so 3k cheaper with more spec and nicer engine, the new megane rs250 is also 3k cheaper. these are both better at what they do.
In Germany the home of both cars the GTI and the ST (like al Europen Ford models) cost exactly the same 26,500Euro incl 19% VAT
how can it take vw 4 years to come up with a hot hatch with less power and equal 0-60 to hot hatches that came out in 2005? get your act together vw, this car is no good.
Hence why every ones no aiming to get the hot hatches that are moving the game on, ie megane rs250, focus rs and mazda3 mps, 200bhp wont cut it anymore. disappointing, really disapointing.
(and vag fanboys, give up, this doesnt cut it *ahem* georg)
But the point Georg was trying to make was to refute the comment (from another Anon) that stated "Golf gti has now fallen back to the rear of the hot hatch q.
its now sedate, boring and not at all very quick-older hot hatches like the focus st and vxr are alot quicker and a hell of a lot cheaper."
Georg then stated that "the GTI is still one of the fastest payable hothatches " and he provided stats to back his claim.
That's precisely the point I'm trying to make.
LoL. How dare he use facts to support his opinion!
The "amount of fun" you have driving a car differs from person to person.
Since they are all so close in performance and price, it all comes down to personal opinion.
It's funny how you take only values backing your claims:
GTI 0-100mph 15.4a
Type R 0-100mph 15.9s
Why not take the 0-60mph times then? (GTI 6.9s vs CTR 6.76s)
My point is not that CTR is better, it's that all those numbers say crap except they're in the same league. As an enthusiast what I value though is the amount of fun I have with a car, and in that respect the GTI lost a lot of its sporty spirit. Driving the GTI just feels so sedated whereas mastering the CTR is just infinitely more rewarding.
GTI 26,500Euro
cheaper NO
no laptimes of the new MPS avaible to see which is better on the track
Focus ST 26,000Euro
little bit cheaper
but GTI faster 0-100mph and faster on 6 of 8 tracks
http://www.fastestlaps.com/index.php?page_id=compare&car1=_Volks wagen_Golf_GTI_Mk_VI&car2=458d5fc827e78
Type R 28,290Euro
cheaper?
GTI 0-100mph 15.4a
Type R 0-100mph 15.9s
quicker?
GTI 240km/h
Type R 235km/h
faster?
GTI faster on EVERY track(5!) both were tested!!!!!!!!
better looking? personla taste but in my eyes the UFO desing of the Civi is plain ugly
