The GTI is not build to compete with RS or R26.R... first it is much cheaper
than both and second VW did not jumpin the hothatch hp war with the GTI because
they want a usefull cheap to own hatchback... nither the RS or R26.R is cheap or
practical
In reality it looks very well. I work for VW, and this engine is the same as in
the Scirocco and Passat CC. The EA888. Nothing, i mean nothing changed. No 10hp
more, or faster acceleration. Same as the Scirocco (tested both of them). This
new EA888 (based on the old 2 litre GTI mk5) it's a little more diesel like.
Still is the best hot hatch money can buy.
Golf gti has now fallen back to the rear of the hot hatch q.
its now sedate, boring and not at all very quick-older hot hatches like the
focus st and vxr are alot quicker and a hell of a lot cheaper.
the previous car was better, this is definately a step backwards, anybody
remeber the 110bhp "GTI"-VW seem to be going back in that direction.what a
shame.
anonymous the GTI is still one of the fastest payable hothatches and it isn´t
VW´s top hothatch... compared to the new Focus RS and otherit is much cheaper to
buy and much cheaper to run...
If you want a fast hot hatch from VW you have to buy the R32 or the coming R
models from Golf and Scirocco
Georg, how is the gti one of the fastest? theres a huge list of cheaper, faster
and better looking hot hatches? the focus rs along with the r26r is in a league
comprable to the imprezas and evos of this world,,plus, spec up a gti and you
will easily be knocking on 25k. its overpriced for what it is and is not
competing anymore with its rivals (focus st-quicker/cheaper astra
vxr-quicker/cheaper mazda3 mps-quicker/cheaper honda civic type
r-quicker/cheaper) whats the point of this gti if its not going to progress from
the last one? 0-62 in 7 secs just isnt going to cut it anymore.
GTI 26,500Euro
Type R 28,290Euro
cheaper?
GTI 0-100mph 15.4a
Type R 0-100mph 15.9s
quicker?
GTI 240km/h
Type R 235km/h
faster?
GTI faster on EVERY track(5!) both were tested!!!!!!!!
better looking? personla taste but in my eyes the UFO desing of the Civi is
plain ugly
It's funny how you take only values backing your claims:
GTI 0-100mph 15.4a
Type R 0-100mph 15.9s
Why not take the 0-60mph times then? (GTI 6.9s vs CTR 6.76s)
My point is not that CTR is better, it's that all those numbers say crap
except they're in the same league. As an enthusiast what I value though
is the amount of fun I have with a car, and in that respect the GTI lost a lot
of its sporty spirit. Driving the GTI just feels so sedated whereas mastering
the CTR is just infinitely more rewarding.
But the point Georg was trying to make was to refute the comment (from another
Anon) that stated "Golf gti has now fallen back to the rear of the hot hatch
q.
its now sedate, boring and not at all very quick-older hot hatches like
the focus st and vxr are alot quicker and a hell of a lot
cheaper."
Georg then stated that "the GTI is still one of the fastest payable
hothatches " and he provided stats to back his claim.
