Year of introduction still needs to be corrected.

@Fastestlaps
Please correct the year of introduction. In 1971 just a concept Countach LP500 was shown. LP400 was in production in 1974-1978.
And please add data from R&T test below.

Although it looks pretty streamlined the CD figure of the Countach was not particularly good and later models with all the extra scoops and bodykit (particularly with the rear wing) were particularly bad. The 25th Anniversary model, without the optional rear wing would have had the highest top speed, though not over 190mph

@ Fangio Man: Yeah, I just noticed the mistake, in 1971, Lamborghini still had the Miura!

User avatar

Was not it built from 1974-1978?

Top speed is 288 km/h not 316. Please correct it! Thanks!

User avatar

For its time it was awesome! But whats hard to beleive is in over 35 years they could only improve the 0-60 from 5.5 to 3.8?

I try to explain better, but my english is not so good.
Ruoteclassiche is an italian magazine that tests only classic car.
It's a modern magazine, so the car are tested now.
It's not on old test but a modern test of old cars.
LP 400 is tested in july/august 2000 number.
They say this car was presented in 1971 (Ginevra) and the model they tested it's the first LP 400 serie which is deliberated in 20 march 1975. So, the say, it's part of 150 production prototype called by supercars lovers "narrow wheels" (205/70 - 215/70).
The later Countach version are all slower than this in top speed (Countach 1988, for example, reach 290,5) but faster in acceleration (exception 0-100 km/h) and better on the track.
If you need some more information of this test i can try to read and traslate other information, but in bad english as you can see.

Georg  18y ago

Marco are you sure they have tested the LP400 and not a later version?

User avatar

marco  18y ago

Italian magazine RUOTECASSICHE Tested this car and reached 299,2 km/h.
316 is a stupid claim.
In the magazine they speak about 385 cv.
On the contrary acceleration figures are better.
Some examples from the test:
0-100 5.0
0-160 11,5
0-180 15.9
0-1km 24.8 - 219.7

User avatar

Amoxx  18y ago

...or 288km/h like Georg said... Does somebody here own one who could test this out? :)

User avatar

Georg  18y ago

288km/h ;)

User avatar

Amoxx  18y ago

Hmm... so it seems. Thanks for lighting me about the issue. Could somebody change the top speed to 290km/h?

User avatar

Georg  18y ago

Countach topspeeds

LP400 288km/h 375PS (3.9l V12) -
LP400S 275km/h 355PS (3.9l V12) -
LP500S 290km/h 375PS (4.8l V12) -
LP5000S / QV / 25 Anniversary 295km/h 455PS (5.2l V12)
Evolutione 315km/h 490PS (5.2l V12 Prototype)

User avatar

Georg  18y ago

The first production car officel tested in a car magazine test that went over the 300km/h mark was the 1984 Ferrari 288 GTO tested by auto motor und sport. The 400hp Ferrari reached 305km/h

The officle topspeed of the Countach LP400 was 288km/h
315km/h was the topspeed for the Countach Evolutione it was a prototype of the Countach successor with 490hp not 375hp...and a 5.2l V12 it was 440kg lighter as the Countach LP5000S (455hp 5.2l V12)

You should realize that the Countach was avaible from 355hp to 455hp and no of the production models even with 455hp could brake into the 300km/h range.. the LP5000S was with 295km/h in 1985 the fastest of all production Countach!

User avatar

Amoxx  18y ago

When this car was new over 25 years ago, they managed to go that fast in tests. If you want to brake 300km/h with this car nowdays you'll need one which is in very good condition. Plenty of powerloss in nearly three decades...

FastestLaps  18y ago

Weight does not matter much when you'r takin' about top speed. Power + Aero matters the most. And looking at specs I would give it no more than about 285-295 km/h.
