Autobild made a first test with the new M3 equipped with the BMW dual clutch
tranny (DKG). The numbers are little bit confusing because they are identical to
the e92 M3 stick shift, but a M3 stick shift tested together with the M3 DKG at
the same day same conditions was over 1 second slower 0-200km/h (125mph) and
0.2s slower 0-100km/h (62mph) at the same day the M3 stick shift reached only a
1:35.41min at the Contidrom test track. The journalist claim the system works
perfect, smooth shifting for cruising or brutal hard quick shifts for racing..
nice side effect the consuption with DKG was lower. The gearing of the 7speed
tranny and final drive are different to that of the M3 stick shift.

^Why do you say that?
Looks like if compare 0-60 time it is a little faster than the stick. I
understand 0-60 is not everthing but it is the same car. The 1/4 mile is a bit
faster on the stick though.

My bad SC, I thought your comment said "DOESN'T" now I see it says "DOES"
^1 second is a LONG time, when racing. Would you want a 10 sec car or a 11 sec
car?

I wouldn't say so that this DKG version is able to accelerate from 0-100km/h
below 4,6 sek.

Drove this M3 with the DKG for an hour. Unbelieveable fast shifting.
Much faster than the SMG in the M5(E60).

would like a rematch of the m3 dct vs gt-r and the gt2. I'm sure it would narrow
the performance gap around the track.

I don't think the M3 is in the same league as the other two, high end
transmission or not.
