I have a 2002 540i touring sport. I want to keep it as a daily driver I’m not in any BMW clubs I can’t seem to find the talent to do good work. Can anyone help? I’m in Northern Ireland. It’s drives like, when the gearbox allows, a new car so tight. I love it and don’t went to drive anything else. Castwaycatering@outlook.com

Guys!
Are you serious with 5.5 and 5.6. I drive 6 speed manual 540, and the best to 60mph or 100kph is 6.3. How you do? How do I have to do???

Dude you have your numbers messed up, the R&T times run for the E39 540I 6-speed had 60 coming up at 5.5 and the generally accepted time for the auto is 6.2 - 6.3. The 6 speed has a lowed gear ratio in first which allows it to get off the line faster while still being able to make it to 60 with only one gear change. The auto, with its higher ratio, is sluggish off the line and still needs to make the jump to second before it reaches 60.
