yep the car in the pic is indeed the 1997 version of the porsche gt1. between
911 gt1 and clk-gtr... that's a really tough choice. i'm surprised nobody ever
did a comparison test between the two, on a track or something. it's important
to know how fast this type of cars are on circuits.
Looks great, i have heard that Porsche would possibly make the the GT1 again
based on the Carrera GT with about 900hp to take on the Buggati Veyron. I have
read that Porsche was testing 900hp engines and the article claimed it would
reach a top speed 2mph more than the veyron.
The Hockenheim laptime was not driven on slicks, they used normal profiled tries
for the laptime run ..according to the that report Walter Röhrl did NOT push
the car to the limit, he dosn´t wanted to crash it.
There was no different between the race and road car... they only made 2 road
going version which had exactly the same specs as the race version.. same weight
same power.

where are you gettin yo stats from?

the figures you are giving are for the race version, as it is clearly stated in
the link you provide. the road legal version (Straßenversion) had 544hp, to
comply with the emission standards, and weighted 1150-1250kgs depending on the
sources. other major changes were:
a raised ride height, slightly softer suspension, steel brake rotors instead of
carbon, a revised interior, smaller fuel tank and a detuned engine to pass
emissions. 7 993-version and (probably) 25 996evo-version road legal were made.
no 1998-gt1 based road legal version has been made.
1.03 sec at hockenheim short for the road legal car is purely a science-fiction
tale (let alone with road tires). just like it is a laughable claim that such a
car would be comparable with a maserati mc12corsa on track.
get your facts together Mr Anonymous the 993 GT1 road version was only build
TWICE... you talk about the later produced "996" GT1 the two road version of the
993 GT1 was completely identical to the race version..only different road tires
vs race tires.. they build all together 25 GT1 of all versions.. the car was
tested by Walter Röhrl at Hockenheim for the sportauto magazine.. they clearly
claimed it was running on normal road tiers.. http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Porsche-GT1-road-version_1762
90.htm here is the car in motion on the northloop easy passing a Ferrari F50
at the Schwedenkreuz..this version of the GT1 was build only twice as road legal
car and like the Hockenheim time this one was driving on road tires..

do i see a heated discussion in the near future between mr anon and georg?..lol
too bad link dont work. and there no way tht this car is gonna get to 0-124mph
in 8.6 secs and to 100kph or whatever in 6.0 thers no fkn way, silly claims..

Hell yes, it'll be another CorvettesRule vs. Anonymous on the ZR1 page..lol

i am the anonymous above (assuming that uniquely determined :)). my sources
claim that 7 of the gt1 993 were built, but that is not the point, right? the
point is that the car has been homologated in the 1996 and by that time euro2
standards had been mandated in EC. i really have hard time believing that a 1996
lemans entering car respected such standards, as you seem to imply. nor it makes
it any truer if you keep repeating the same sentences over and over again.
thus the road spec'd gt1 had to be detuned, not only to meet emission standards,
but safety ones, as well, hence the higher weight.
i fail to see the purpose of your video showing a gt1 passing an f50 while
braking in a straight, anyways.
assuming the stock Porsche hockenheim's times are real (which should be, unlike
other brands'...)
1.03 is just barely believable for an un-air restricted 700+hp, 900kg lemans
spec'd gt1 running on slicks. i doubt that the 544hp, 1200kg road legal version
on 1996 road tires could match the carrera gt time ...
if anything, the fact that you are reporting a claim of rohrl and sportauto
proves that lap time is pure fantasy.

man1 i fully agree with you..

I second man1. 544hp @ 1200kg will not give you 1:03 on Hockenheim short, even
if your name IS Walter Rohlr. This should be obvious. Someone should change it.

I third that yall, 5 seconds faster than a 710 race spec mc12 corse and a
porsche cgt with ten years better technology and track based, get the fk outta
here with that 1:03 in a car with 545 and weighing 2756, dont care if it even
has gt1 in its name that shit needs to be erased. i could see this thang going
1:07.982 at its very best potential with the worlds greatest driver doing 20
warm up laps with this car being in extremely perfect condition, but that
laptime as mr man1 said..is pure fantasy..
the car has ~600hp not 545... the power to weight ratio between GT1 and CGT is
590hp/to > 438hp/to that IS HELL A LOT DIFFERENT and it is hell a lot different
the GT1 was driven by several time world champion and the CGT was driven by car
journalist!!!!!!!!!!
just for the kids here... tuned 911 reach 1:06min times at Hockenheim shorttrack
thats hell lot faster as sportauto CGT laptime and even faster as MC12 laptime..
the different between prof driver and car journalists..
cargraphic laped with a 465hp 997 GT3 RS the shorttrack in 1:08.8 in 2007 as
fast as the CGT but with 147hp less than the CGT..the 1:04min laptime of the
Donkervoort D8 RS has a poer to weight ratio of 517hp/to thats less as the
590hp/to of the 993 GT1...

I have the magazine with Hockenheim test, but 1.03 is not the time for the stock
car but for the race care.
1.03 is the time that Saurma set with GT 1 corsa but he said the car have the
more potential, under one minute.
Here the link for the reference
http://www.einszweidrei.de/porsche/gt1lemans1996-1.htm
just compare the real GT1 race car laptimes with our production car laptimes
here...
GT1 Laguna Seca 1997 1:19.7min(fastest race lap) fastest production car Viper
ACR 2008 1:35.1min
FIA GT 1997 Silverstone 1:41.9min
fastest production car 2008 Porsche GT2 2:10.1min
FIA GT 1997 Suzuka 1:56.23 fastest production car 2008 Nissan GT-R 2:22.8min
FIA GT 1998 Oschersleben 1:19.3min fastest production car 2008 Corvette Z06
1:40.3min...
If they would have tested a race GT1 at the Hockenheim shorttrack the time
different to normal production cars would have been ~25-35seconds... like at any
other track
@ Marco if you could read German you would read that there clearly is claimed
the car was driven by Walter Röhrl on STREET TIRES NOT Horst von Saurma ...Die
Beschleunigung und die Rundenzeit in Hockenheim wurden von >>Walter
Röhrl>Profilreifen
Marco
24/09/08, 12:06:26
You're right i couldn't read german, i know only some words.
Anyway Gt 1 race car lap under one minute in hockenheim short track. 1.03 for
stock car is impossible.
Street tyres but race car.
If you read the stock car test, you can see no time in Hockenheim short track.
