If this was around when I was 16, I'd get a used something or other. That's the thing with cheap cars, you can probably get a "better" old model of something else for the same price. This car is about 20,000. 10 seconds on google found me a C5 Corvette for $18,000 and a few more for $20-22,000. Of course, a new car is appealing for obvious reasons.

You would have to be mad to take this over a evo/sti. But the point is that this is cheaper and could hold its own with those two cars.

Imagine you are a teenager trying to get your parents to sign for you at the dealer. The price of this car is so reasonable that you could get this rather than something like a civic or accord. If this would have been around when I was 16.. I would have had this rather than a damn accord.

It has FWD. It is an Accord as far as I'm concerned. I'd wager the Evo and STi are a better drive, and they could certainly keep up with it.

Check out the ring time.. faster than the Sti, evo VI & VII.

Wish I had this option when I was a teen. Thats a hell of a car for the price of a base model honda accord.

faster than Evo 9 on a circuit? is that a joke?

not to mention it put up 500whp on the stock turbo...

i'd love to see a civic keep up, and look at some of the cars it's beating, it costs alot less than quite a few cars its been running better than... & whats shit about it? zzp's shop car is running 500whp on the ss/tc

"it's just a light POS econobox with a potent little motor"

You dont set FWD records with just the motor. It has a excellent chassis, outstanding traction control to curb torque steer, no lift shifting and other tricks usually reserved for cars costing a hell of alot more than $24k.

Yeah, its a cheap car with a shitty interior but it has everything it needs to be very quick.

The Cobalt is a steaming pile. I don't care how quick someone can get from point A to point B in one. It's just a light POS econobox with a potent little motor (the same one that's in the POS solstice). Any car manufacture could make a steaming pile of crap like this thing. Notice why it didn’t last long? Bingo!

Outdated suspension or not this thing is impressive for the fwd class. Sure i'd like to see irs, but it shows that it really doesnt need it. Plus at the end of the day we gotta remember this is a production car aimed at younger people (in general) who dont have tones of $$$ to drop. If they did they wouldnt drive a cobalt. So with that being said, to keep costs down, the rear suspension stayed with what works. IMO, this car is pretty nice for the price tag and it beats most of its close competition, so hats off to the cobalt ss!

american lada....what a pile of shit...haha i used to love this car

I love how you all bash the SS and Stang GT for axles...what's the matter? Are you ashamed that your fresh new cars with independent suspension handle worse than out-dated axles? Civic compared to SS? Give me a break. Civic's aren't tuned for shit. Old tech tuned=better than new tech not tuned. BTW if I do remember the CIVIC TYPE-R switched from independent suspension to an axle in the back...so stfu honda boys.

then try the zr1

Hoonda has nothing that can touch this? try the NSX.

ROFL at the Honda fanboys trying to bash this car in any way.

Newsflash, the Civic and Cobalt aren't even in the same league. Honda has nothing that can touch this thing.

You need to look at the tracks above that both the Civic and Cobalt have run on.....it appears the only way the Cobalt is going to get close to the Civic is if the Cobalt guy lifts so the Civic can catch him.

Yes but GMs reputation is questionable when it comes to quality and revising its suspension would be a great start and by the way this car might do 5.8 0-100 but there is no way it can come close to a civic in the corners.

Well no kiddin.

suspension aside, this is faster than any corolla or civic. and i'm pretty sure it costs less than the top of the line civic and corolla.

i very much agree with you. people are just raggin on this becuse of its so caled out dated suspension, but considering how this thing performs with wat its got, it really doesnt need it, and it works well without it. but if youd put suspension a tyres from the R26R, along with some other mods, this would destroy that hardcore Renalt.

This time is officially listed and recorded. Yes, the rear suspension on the car isn't independent and out of date but it works for the car and as it shows it works very very well. People just like to rag on anything they can think of, but all in all it just shows how ignorant people are. This car deserves credit for what it can do for what little it has, and if anyone remembers the time attack Cobalt SS that destroyed it's competition in the superstreet time attack. So with all this said, this car deserves props and much more for its performance.

wow, i cannot believe you even said that, this will destroy any civic out there, and so what if it doesnt have that so called up to date suspension, it does a great job without it, just lok at the times. and last time i check it beat yur 390bhp $93,000 rwd Maserati Coupe on the longest most difficult race track in the world.

Screw the swaybar and get away from the solid axle already as this is 2009 and not 1929!!! A plain old honda civic would do circles around this as at least that company knows what a real suspension is for, unless you just drive in a straight line.
