the car in the picture is no Type R. The perfromance data of the Type R were far away from factory claims. sportauto clocked 0-100km/h 7.0s 0-180km/h 24.8s (VW GTI 22.0s) and the car was with 1355kg more heavy as claimed... with a 64.1/35.9% bad weight balance. The GTI tested at the same day on the same tires was nearly 2 secods faster.

I just cannot explain how much I love design of this new Civic (European hatch). It looks fantastic.

FastestLaps 19/11/07, 14:02:00
TopGear magazine claimed this to be the best hot hatch on market. Now Jeremy Clarkson says it's a hopeless car. It's no wonder it does not handle as well as previous model because it is a bigger heavier car. All the new cars are heavier. And not always the next generation car will be faster. Take VW Golf GTi for instance. The Mk1 was faster than Mk3! The Japanese version of Civic is a different story. It is really really fast and high tech. What I like the most of European version is styling. That car looks gorgeous. It is not only different from others and futuristic. It is aesthetic and with good lines and proportions.

jugbugz 23/11/07, 18:38:15
buttlicking the FN2? It's the worse type R out and doesn't derserve the Type R badge. Only JDM models derserve it. Look at the FD2 CTR sedan, thats what you call a real type R, as well as the original EK9. EP3 tried but failed, only good thing was the K20A. lol

maestro 30/11/07, 15:53:31
I think this is one of the best hot hatches around. and looks like it's faster than the golf gti on the top gear track. sorry for gti lovers.

Heyhuub 30/11/07, 16:07:01
Yeah, but on all the other tracks it's allot slower then the GTI.

Georg 30/11/07, 18:30:39
best track perfromance hatchbacks currently are the Renault Megane R26 and Clio RS Sport.. both are absolut hardcore..

maestro 30/11/07, 20:48:19
but in the top gear track, the results are more clear than the other tests because the stig drives these cars. and a couple months ago, top gear magazine chosen this type-r number 1 in all of the other hatchbacks. I have that link if u wanna see.

Georg 01/12/07, 11:51:39
topgear is a bad compare they have extrem change in track conditions... there no matter if driven by the stick or not.. they make no claims about weather and track conditiosn..sportauto has at each test air, tamrac temperature, and air pressure... at a direct compare to the GTI at the Hockenheim shorttrack dine under exactly the same conditions it lost badly vs the GTI.. Same happen at the Evo car magazine test for the hottest hatchback.. the Civic did not survive the first round..more heavy as a GTI with the lowest power is a bad combination to shine

Heyhuub 01/12/07, 16:25:14
Plus, Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear absolutely hated it.

maestro 01/12/07, 21:42:08
but in the last 'car magazine', the track results of this type-r is even better than renault clio sport f1 team r27 which seems better on this hockenheim shorttrack. anyway, the tests can be confusing some ways but there is a thing that I really know, none of these hot hatchbacks can give driving pleasure as type-r gives. this must has been accepted.

maestro 02/12/07, 15:31:52
also, the tracks that this type-r has compared gti, are all german tracks except topgear track. am I wrong? so I think the top gear test is more fair than others because in the german tracks they always drive german cars especially golf gti, they even drive gti in tyre tests. and they know this car inside and out. but they don't know type-r's that much. I know if u don't drive this type-r much, than u can't know its chemistry. so I trust top gear test results more. so I still think it's faster than gti on track.

Georg 02/12/07, 18:15:02
each test done by a different magazine...and most magazine have cars like the Renault R26 Focus ST or MPS3 as fastest hot hatchback on their test track.. means this tests are not German biased ..so you claim that they prefer German cars is completly incorrect.. sportauto has used the Civic Type r for a 100.000km long distance endurance test..they know the car pretty damn well..

maestro 31/12/07, 12:21:51
But in the top gear test they wrote its track condition I mean it's wet or damp.

maestro 31/12/07, 12:35:53
And you are saying that I should trust the sportauto tests? then how can u explain that the mini cooper s clubman is 1 second ahead of the normal mini cooper s on hockenheim shorttrack? how can it possible. So I still trust the topgear test because it's at least more reasonable.

Georg 31/12/07, 13:09:38
maestro the reason why the Clubman is faster as the Mini is from the longer wheelbase(which improve weight balance and makes the car more stable during cornering and barking), which allows more neutral handling and better braking. That allows 1.3km/h higher slalom speed(18m slalom 68km/m > 66.7km/h) and 8.4m shorter stoping distance 200-0km/h (142.6m > 151.0m) It is NOT 1 second faster it is 0.4s faster 1:20.7min > 1:21.1min sportauto names zrack conditions track and air temperature air pressure At the Mini test 12°C air 14°C tarmac airpressure 1020mbar. Ask yourself why Nissan choose the help of sportauto for their GT-R track tests and not from topgear.. ;) Civic Type R test conditions (they tested the VW GTI at the same day under the same conditions in a direct 2007 model compare) air 10°C tarmac 13°C airpressure 1028mbar both cars running on the same Potenza RE050 A tires in 225 stock from factory at both in 2007. Civic Type R 1:21.3min GTI 1:19.6min, GTI better weight balance, better brakes, higher slalom speed cheaper car faster at the track... point... summery of sportauto about the Type R... as good as the GTI in the corner..loos at the straight and at braking... to short gear rotation high weight (compared to the old Civic)

The Stig loved it when he drove it in Top Gear magazine - preferred it to the Golf GTI, Focus ST, Astra VXR and even the Megane R26.

maestro 09/01/08, 01:22:01
yeah. I think that's because type-r is more suitable for a hot hatch class because its hi revvy and it has a hard-sport suspension so it's really really fun to drive. I'm saying as a owner of type-r.

Georg 09/01/08, 10:16:35
just compare the laptimes of the R26 to the Type-R and you see how slow the Honda is..

maestro 10/01/08, 20:57:27
of course r26 is faster and its actually fastest in its class. it has 30 more hp's and 120 nm torq more than type-r. but type-r is really isn't that slow. I record a video some time ago with 1 of my friend in the car and it shows that 0-160 time is nearly 15 seconds not bad. here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xh2753ZZzkw

PhantomPorsche 10/01/08, 23:59:27
I would rather have the old type-r, it is smaller and lighter which will make its more nimble

FastestLaps 11/01/08, 00:04:55
Maestro, When I said that Civic Type-R is probably the fastest fwd car in the world I was talking about this http://www.fastestlaps.com/car4725ed280dbc3.html - the hardcore Japanese version.

maestro 11/01/08, 22:28:40
yeah I understand what you said. I love all the cars manufactered by honda. when honda made nsx at the first time I fell in love with it :)) that jdm version is very fast I agree with that. I'm sure it's faster than all of the other hot-hatches and 0-100km 6.3s is a very good result for a fwd like this. wish it came to our country. but I read some of magazines. and they said that jdm version is for pure racing. it's a complete package for tracks. but has lack of accesories and some other comfort packages. I want from a car is that both comfort and performance and this euro type-r has them all so I've chosen it. and it's ideal for everyday use. also it has a large booth which can contain 460 liters.I can put a violoncello to my booth :)) also as I said before it's really really fun to drive it.

maestro 14/01/08, 07:18:57
Also this video should be in the 'associated videos' too I think. it's the car magazine's test for the best performance cars. link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_1B1dK7RRM
