I remember Jeremy testing it in Top Gear. He hoped that it will beat it's german
rivals (M3 & 911) but it obviously din't. Then he admitted that german
messerschmit bet british spitfire. Ahh. He also promised MG will return equipped
with NOS. :D
yes remember that episode... funny that he always get to ww2 phrases if they
compare a German to a british car... like the Mercedes CLS 55 AMG... he said it
sounds like a starting Spitfire..and the German engineers claimed it to sound
like a Messerschmitt :-)
Realy a funny guy... I loved his ford GT ownership story :-))
The MG SV that was tested on Top Gear was the base version not the R version.
The MG X-Power SV-R has a rear spoiler (as shown on the picture) while the MG SV
that was tested on Top Gear hasn't got a rear spoiler.

um, wen u say clarkson addmitted ein messerschmitt beat a spitfire, isn't that
slight bullshit - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVCSw-vcf8E - firstly he
didnt say it, secondly he wouldn't say it (he's a rather british chap) and
thirdly isn't it a bit factually bollocks as the allies won the war so
theoretically more messerschmitts were beaten than spitfires
They did not win because Spitfires were better fighter-planes than
Messerschmitts. I am not an aviation specialist but as far as I have heard and
learned Messerschmitts were the best WW2 fighters. At least when you compare
them on paper.
As for comparing sound of SL55 with Spitfire&Co - it's no wonder that they both
sound so similar because those planes then used piston engines with pistons
arranged in V-shape - V12s, V16s and so on. And sounds of big displacement
low-rpm car V8s are very similar to those emitted by WW2 V12 aircraft engines.
How come nobody has removed the Top Gear lap time of this car? The MG SV that
was tested on Top Gear was the base version not the R version. The MG X-Power
SV-R has a rear spoiler (as shown on the picture) while the MG SV that was
tested on Top Gear hasn't got a rear spoiler.
