I feel I should but in about now. I work for the VW audi group and I can assure everyone who is starting to think it might be true that not even Alonso could get a stock MK5 gti from 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) in anything less than 6.4 seconds for a DSG and 6.6 seconds for the manual. And anyone on here who is saying any different is either lying or there stop watch is broken. The only hatches in with a shout of breaking 0-100 kph in 6 seconds are the Focus RS, the Golf R and the Audi S3.

i think james's time was quite ok,well at least tenths of second faster than publish by VW. You can check the 2 vids posted by myself at youtube. search for jefrizn. mine also is stock.

I think a 2008 or 2009 GTI mk5, would get 6,5s 0-100km, 'cause it has the same engine from the new gti mk6 and the scirocco. The EA888, dyno run 211hp.

if Gti timed 5,8 sec in 0-100km/h

S3 with haldex in 2 sec???

hahahahha.

hahahahahaha james.

0-100km/h in 5.8 sec??

You are crazy.

Golf GTi V is a piece of crap.

Timed with what method?
I agree with James. When timed I got 0-100km/h in 5.9s.
2007 GTI DSG stock motor on Bridgestone Potenza 18".

JH..... 5.8 to 100kph.... how was this timed and are you sure thats not 0-60mph? 5.8 is R32 quick and therefore not many people will believe you unfortunately.

love this car, my sister just got one, its brilliant. to her its a rocketship and its incredibly comfortable, in fact when my dad worked for mercedes he brought home an s klasse once and because of all the plastic in the air id say the vw was more even more luxurious, thats not bad considering all the technology in the merc!

only 2800LBS that is 200LBS lighter than a ford focus ST.The VW golf GTI could evan give a subaru WRX 08 a run for it's money. The VW golf GTI could probably corner alot faster than the WRX but on the striaght's I dont think the VW golf GTI could do all that great. But they should use VW golf GTI's for rally race's Like the WRX and the focus.

Comparing its track performance with the Focus ST one, it should be a bit higher than it is. Maybe the problem relies on INTA's laptime, as it's being compared with the shorter track on the ST. Nice site by the way.

I know the powercar magazine and I can read german as a German. But this test is not online :( On the the powercar 2/2007 cover which is online you see that they have a compact class compare in the magazine but the test is not online :(

I have post the laptimesheet in the Forum in the "wrong technical data" section... there you can see it!

The Edition 30 was tested by a other sportauto test driver.

GTI was driven by Jochen Übler, GTI Edition by Anja Wassertheuer

0.7s different can have many reasons.. weather, driver, track condition, the Edition 30 is slightly more heavy

The link doesn't open, but thanks for the info. Funny thing is that now it's quicker than Edition 30.

Anonymous this 1:19.6min laptime was from a direct sportauto compare to a 2007 Honda Civic Type R in the 4/2007 sportauto magazine. VW changed the tier supplier early 2007 for the GTI The Bridgestone Potenza RE050A improved the GTI laptime a lot. I have scanned the laptime sheet for you see here.. http://a779.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/30/l_d17019f4b2e6e21d47c0cac9b85a16b2.jpg
