The Tsukuba laptime was driven with automatic.

| Is there any SERIOUS reference for the Nordschleife time?
I really doubt that time. Did lots of research and could not find a true
reference.
Having references for these times would help credibility. Otherwise... lots of
work wasted...

According to user who posted it, lap time was set by "Motortrend" magazine.

| Which year/number of Motortrend? I can guarantee 100% that Motortrend never
tested the 997 Turbo on Nordschleife. I would simply delete this time, for 2
reasons: 1) no reference and 2) suspect, too low.

I have found this time on the sportauto online page...
7:40* -- 161.217 km/h -- Porsche Carrera GT, 612 PS/ 1495 kg, *cold and
partially wet track (sport auto 12/03)
7:40 --- 161.217 km/h -- Porsche 997 Turbo, 480 PS/ ??? kg, Michelin Cup Sport
tyres (Motortrend)
7:41 --- 160.868 km/h -- Manthey Porsche GT3 M410, 413hp (AutoBild 07/04),

| Come on guys...
I mean a serious reference. No public newsgroups or Internet gossip.
Let's see a reference by Motortrend or by Porsche for example.

Nissan claims the 7:40min of the Porsche 997 Turbo as the benchmark for their
new Nissan GT-R... how could they use an non existing laptime as referenc? They
tested the GT-R testmule together with a 997 Turbo at the Ring last year...
BTW what is so unbeliveable at that time? That is only 6s faster as a less
powerfull 996 GT2 from 2001 on normal road tires.

| Georg, it as simple as this: either you have the reference or not.
It like saying "I heard a friend of a neighbor saying..."

autoweek said Porsche claims a 7:42min for the 997Turbo on Semi slicks.. wow
someone beat Porsche claim by 2 seconds on a 20km track..
7:42min would be still faster as 7:42.99min... the Z06 7:42.99min time is a
factory claim... as the 7:42min of the 997 on semi slicks.. if you accept one
you have to accept both.

I can't wait GT2 version of 997. Is there any information about it - wether
Porsche actually will or won't build such a car?

The 997 GT2 testmule was running the Ring last year.

according to Autobild the GT2 has 530hp and as the old only RWD, development
phase is finished (news from 12/2006)

He he funny how they overshaped headlaps to make them look like 996 to fool spy
photographers. Cool rims btw.

| Georg, your reference is lame: "the automaker claims the car will circle in
seven minutes, 42 seconds shod in the optional sport tires". Very fuzzy. Where
is the Porsche claim?? This is just gossip. A reference is by somebody that
actually tested the car, no foggy words.
Also it is 7:42, not 7:40.
If you want to challenge the Z06 time go to that page. I have provided a very
strong reference for that time, ask FastestLaps.com

Thank you.

It's not garbage data. It's Porsche's offical claim. (they HAVE done it, I
absolutely believe it and there is no reason not to believe) And even better lap
times with 997T are set but those aren't with stock tires. We don't have
millions of lap times set in millions of tracks. We have to publish what we have
(not false ones of course). This particular case definately isn't one of the
worst. There are plenty of well established magazines saying 997 Turbo does that
dam 7:42. Yes, the 977 IS faster than Z06 at Nordschleife. So what? In owerwall
speed it's slower. I know it you know it everyone knows. Why are you sooo
interested in this particular lap time? OK I deleted this one but just to make
you satisfied. The reference what Georg provided wasn't lame. Try to find ref
good as that for all your Z06 times!

| Thank you. Trust me, there is no Porsche claim for any 997T at Nordschleife. It
is just gossip. If somebody will provide a serious reference, then the community
will recognize it. It is not about cars rivalry here, it is about truth.
You already have lots of data and many more will come. Do not accept anything
that does not have a direct and serious reference, with a link similar to the
one I provided for the C6 Z06.
I will give you a 2nd link for C6 Z06 on Nordschleife, just to prove that when
it is real, there are serious references:

| FastestLaps, the lap times I provided for Z06 are way better than Georg
reference for 997T on Nordschleife. Please check them, they are very precise and
from reputable sources.
How about this: publish the link for any lap time, that would hugely increase
the credibility of your site and make it very popular. Trust me, people are sick
of lies and tricks. When they will be able to check the source by themselves the
BS will stop :-)

if Walther Röhrl would put you in 7:40min around the track in a 997 turbo you
would still not belive it...
BTW motortrend tested the 2007 997 Turbo with 3.2s 0-60mph and 11.4s (120.5mph)
with the 5speed tiptronic automatic... in not perfect weather conditions!

| Georg, I will believe any reasonable reference. Time will tell, truth always
come to light.
As for the lower 0-60 time of 997t, FastestLaps decided to publish
manufacturer's time.
Show us a reference from Porsche.
