Face-lifted Porsche 997 GT3 details

When world economy is falling apart, Porsche is still there warming our car-loving hearts with new model releases. This time it's the GT3 that has received a new revision with a more powerful engine, improved handling characteristics and some cosmetic changes.

Official details, including initial performance figures have just been released and can be seen in 997 GT3-Facelift page.

As you can see, power output is raised from 415 to 435 ps (20 ps increase) and the engine now produces more torque as well - 430 Nm as compared to 405 Nm in 2006 GT3. But there is more to it than just slightly improved straight line speed.

The new GT3 offers even better grip and stability also at high speeds, specific modifications of the car's aerodynamics increasing down-forces both front and rear to such an extent that the overall pressure pushing down the car is more than twice as great as on the former model. (from Porsche press release)

For some reason Porsche didn't mention it's famous PDK double clutch transmission as an option in press release, so don't expect to have that in your new GT3. Also, unlike regular 2009 Porsche 911s, the GT3 won't have direct injection.

The absence of PDK is a real disappointment. I know there is certain group of car enthusiasts who whine about how horrible the paddle shifting is, how it disconnects driver from the car, makes the driving experience less involving etc. Well, if you guys think shifting with a stick is so essential and if you really want to be "connected to the car" in a mechanical level, maybe you should get rid of the engine altogether and push your car around instead. That would be 100% unassisted man-and-machine experience.

Let's face it - it's easier and much quicker to shift with some sort of shift-by-wire switch rather than a large mechanical knob. Quicker equals better when it comes to sports-cars, so, hopefully, Porsche will get it's PDK ready for the GT3 and upcoming face-lifted Turbo sooner or later.

The new dupont registry magazine has a page showing the Audi GT3 which has come out or will be out soon, and looks similar to the Porsche GT3,and i sen the page and it does look amazing, but i do not think it will blow the Porsche out of the water like that guy says.

V4 Huh? well my half american side is gonna have to take ova and say, in the words of Gordon Ramsey..Fuck Yaself and your stereotypical ways. thats all i have to say. you tell em wifey..lol

actually its the other way around.. first off i have no idea of any v4 european car because they are too subtle to draw attention while a riced up dodge neon will beat that old 924 v8. the base 911 already generates over 350 bhp, which with the traction and weight is enough to beat pretty much anything youll actually see at a stoplight. then there is this with 435, the gt2 with almost 100 more, and the carrera gt with packs on almost ANOTHER 100 over that. it may "only" weigh 435 lbs but that is enough of "a big ass engine" to me!

its actually a Flat-6..a liiiiill bit of difference..

Its time for a V8, man every hot manufacter has a big ass engine.

i know all theyve done for the half century the 911 has been is existence is make it rounder, bigger, and a bit more practical every time!! seriously if you watch a slide show from old to new its really just a gradual molding into the modern shape.

You can only get so much torque out of a V6.

I have always been a Porsche file- but recently have got rather bored with the 911...I think it needs a complete redesign. Porsche should stop trying to chase the likes of the Nissan GTR and build a smaller, lighter sports car, like the old cars. Bringing out a mildly face-lifted GT3 every two or three years with a bit more power, isn't really going to change the world.

I'm good with out no PDK.

“does weight have anything to do with top speed?”No weight doesn't have any impact on top speed. The only factors that impact top speed are power and drag (either from the road or wind resistance)

“how do you increase gravity???!!!!!!!!”
By eating! ;D
As anonymous said, downforce, using front splitters, diffusers, spoilers and even much more less effective things like, mirrors in the bugatti

how do you increase gravity???!!!!!!!!

No. Mass only effects acceleration and cornering. More is bad. To get technical, weight is good. It's the force acting on the tires which determines grip. The only ways to increase weight without mass is to increase gravity (a rare feature in most cars) or by using downforce.

does weight have anything to do with top speed? cause im confused with somthing.

Alot of REAL car companies would have both styles of shifting in one car!!!

The PDK is a good system. However, how the PDK operates is questionable and I have no clue why Porsche insist on suck an unconventional way to shift. The paddle operation will probably get redesigned somewhere down the road.

who care's about stupid PDK and paddle shift's

paddle shifters help for fast laps, straight line speed, etc., but i'd still prefer the proper H shifter in my sports car, especially in a porsche..

that guy would be getting an extra 5 mph before dozens of corners an an extra 5-10 on the straight accoriding to the video. maybe 5th gear is a TAD too tall, just redline at 150 and lose valuable time was apparently just fine with dodge. wonder if they're taking it back?
