Cool cars of near future: VW Golf 6 |
18.08.2008 |
Volkswagen Golf (or Volkswagen Rabbit if you live in a forest) is one of the most popular most important cars in whole world and when a new generation comes out, it's a big deal. Usually it is.
VW Golf 6 is scheduled to be unveiled in this year's Paris motor show but as it often happens with important new releases, there are plenty of pictures circulating the internet already and everyone who's interested has already googled them. Obviously, I haven't seen it in real life but judging from these pictures alone, Golf 6 will not be a lot different than it's predecessor. Probably the best way to describe it's appearances is by imagining what happens if you mate VW Scirocco with VW Touareg. The end result would be Golf 6.
Technically it will be the same Golf 5. VW will use the underpinnings of good-old fifth generation Golf. It's noting unusual because they use Golf 5 platform for other cars like Scirocco and Tiguan as well and there is nothing wrong with it. The same gearboxes will be used offering choice of manual, automatic or dual-clutch DSG. Interior, however, is redesigned and VW promise much better trim quality.
As you might expect, VW has plenty of engine choices for new Golf, starting from 1.4 petrol with 80 hp all the way up to hot turbo-charged 211 hp "GTi" unit and new common-rail diesels. There are rumors that VW later will introduce "Golf GTD" with an exceptionally cool 2.0 twin turbo 200 hp diesel. It would be exiting to see which one turns out to be the quickest - GTi or GTD. Golf 6 GTi will be in showrooms next year. Unfortunately, it looks like there will be no roaring R32 V6 version of Golf 6. At least it's not on VW priority list by now.
Some new tech-features are also expected to be offered as options in sixth generation Golf. Some of them, like "Adaptive damping system" with choice of three different levels of stiffness, "Intelligent cruise control" and "Automatic parking system" are not yet available even in higher class and more expensive Passat. |
