Corvette ZR1 details revealed |
23.12.2007 |
The new über-corvette will indeed be called "Chevrolet Corvette ZR1" (forget about "Stingray", "Blue Devel", "SS" and all the other non-sense) and it will basically be revised, more powerful version of Corvette C6 Z06 with 6.2 liter supercharged "LS9" engine that gives out 620 horsepower (a little disappointment for those who dreamed about 650 horses). It's rumored that ZR1 will do 0-100 km/h in 3.4 seconds and the new top speed will be 200 mph.
I won't bother telling You how many improvements have been done to this car because I don't know and don't care. In stead I will give you this little "improvement list" that is part of GM press release.
All-new LS9 supercharged 6.2L V-8 targeted at producing at least 100 horsepower per liter, or 620 horsepower (462 kW), and approximately 595 lb.-ft. of torque (823 Nm) -
Six-speed, close-ratio, race-hardened manual transmission -
New, high-capacity dual-disc clutch -
Higher-capacity and specific-diameter axle half-shafts; enhanced torque tube -
Specific suspension tuning provides more than 1g cornering grip -
Twenty-spoke 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels -
Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires – P285/30ZR19 in front and P335/25ZR20 in the rear – developed specifically for the ZR1 -
Standard carbon-ceramic, drilled disc brake rotors – 15.5-inch-diameter (394-mm) in the front and 15-inch-diameter (380-mm) in the rear -
Larger brake calipers with substantially increased pad area -
Standard Magnetic Selective Ride Control with track-level suspension -
Wider, carbon-fiber front fenders with ZR1-specific dual vents -
Carbon-fiber hood with a raised, polycarbonate window – offering a view of the intercooler below it -
Carbon-fiber roof panel, roof bow, front fascia splitter and rocker moldings with clear-coated, exposed carbon-fiber weave -
ZR1-specific full-width rear spoiler with raised outboard sections -
Specific gauge cluster with boost gauge (also displayed on the head-up display) and 220-mph (370 km/h) speedometer readout -
Only two options: chrome wheels and a “luxury” package -
Curb weight of approximately 3,350 pounds (1,519 kg)
So the new Corvette ZR1 will be much more powerful but heavier than the C6 Z06, it will have better brakes, even more track-related suspension and transmission and it will cost around 100 000 dollars. So how will it perform against European "600 hp club" supercars? Well, there is only one way to find out - wait until someone takes it 'round racing track. It's again all about lap times. And that's why the World now has fastestlaps.com. |

| the good news is that there will be a boost button/option that would increase
for short periods (while overtaking) the output by up to 30 HP - that is why
Corvette fans claimed those 650 HP.
this car in my eyes is the "real mccoy" and that blue color is impressive enough
to justify the nickname Blue Devil!
and considering the price, now I know, I should seriously think about putting
myself on a waiting list :-) ! |
