Here it is - the 2008 Lancer EVO X |
25.09.2007 |
Mitsubishi has released first official photos of their new Lancer EVO X - the new generation in iconic 4-seater street rally car family. (Here are the direct links to pictures: pic1, pic2, pic3)
Scheduled to be presented at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show, here are the first official photos of the new Mitsubishi Evo X. Based on the Prototype-X, presented by Mitsubishi in this year’s Detroit Show, it seems that the sport sedan will be powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that packs 295 hp and it also features a new Mitsubishi four-wheel drive system.
Another new feature of the new Mitsubishi Evo X will be a Twin Clutch SST dual-clutch sequential gearbox. The car will also offer better handling and grip than the current Evo IX, despite being slower. (it goes from 0 to 62 mph (100km/h) in 5.0 seconds). (AutoUnleashed) |

| It looks like a mean machine! I reckon the style of it almost looks like a BMW. |

| How exactly does a dual clutch work, and what advantages does it have over the
"usual" clutch? |

The main advantage is speed. Gear changes are lightning fast and seamless. How
it works? Well, I am not 100% sure but I think it goes like this: If you are in,
lets say, 2nd gear and accelerating, the dual clutch system will automatically
preselect third gear (on your secondary clutch) so when you click up shift
paddle the gear change happens immediately. If you stop accelerating and start
braking, system will automatically preselect 2nd gear. It predicts whether you
will up shift or downshift. And end-result is remarkable. You get effortless
gear changes almost as fast as in F1 car. |

| also, on f1 cars a dual clutch keeps the power down whilst the other clutch
selects the new gear, so it speeds it up. appaz ova a gp it accounts 4 7 seconds |

| A BMW? You'll have to explain that one to me. I do agree it looks mean though,
just not like a BMW, you can't compare some japanese car to a beautifly
engineered german masterpeice such as a BMW |
